Herington is home to many active and retired military families and civil service employees. This gives new military families a strong support network of friends to draw on during times of deployment. Herington gives you theopportunity to enjoy the small town comforts you and your family may be used to enjoying.

The short commute to Fort Riley gives you a chance to enjoy the changing seasons and scenery on the well maintained US77 (89th Infantry Division) Highway. There is opportunity to carpool. Early work is being done on possibly establishing a direct bus service between the Fort and Herington.

Herington has a long history of supporting our military. In fact, during World War II, the Herington Army Air field was instrumental in the Pacific Theatre of the war; 60% of the B-29's in this Theatre were processed through this base before deploying.
